The Porter Wagoner Show No. 93
Introduction to Porter Wagoner show #93. Program opens with Wagoner and Wagonmasters Speck Rhodes, Don Warden, and George McCormick as well as Norma Jean onscreen singing "Howdy Neighbor Howdy." Over title card decorated with drawing of Wagoner, announcer Hairl Hensley introduces Wagoner and The Wagonmasters, show regulars Speck Rhodes and Norma Jean, and "your favorite songs and stars of the Grand Ole Opry!" Wearing rhinestone-studded Nudie suit, Wagoner welcomes audience, then plays guitar and sings a short version of "Will You Be Loving Another Man" from his 1964 LP "The Bluegrass Story," backed by The Wagonmasters. CU Buck Trent and his electric banjo. MCU Mack; after Mack's hot solo, Porter laughs and says "The fiddle's done wore out, isn't it."

Porter introduces guest David Houston, from Shreveport, LA. They chat a bit, then backed by The Wagonmasters, Houston plays guitar and sings "I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen." The song is awfully sappy, but Houston's near-operatic vocal control (especially at the tail of the song) is mighty impressive. After the song Porter and David say the song is from Houston's LP "Twelve Great Country hits," but it in fact appears on the previous album "New Voice From Nashville."

Wagoner introduces Pretty Miss Norma Jean, who plays guitar and sings "A Woman's Gotta Make A Stand," from her 1966 LP "Please Don't Hurt Me," backed by The Wagonmasters. MS smiling Buck Trent picking away on his banjo strings. Norma sports a new blonde hairdo that gives her a suspiciously Jeannie Seely-like appearance. Norma chuckles a few times at something off screen.

Porter introduces a new song written by Hank Cochran, then plays guitar and sings "I'm A Long Way From Home" accompanied by The Wagonmasters. The song appears on Porter's 1966 LP "Confessions Of A Broken Man."

De Gaulle Rallies France For Constitution Ballot. De Gaulle Tours. People in crowd wave, holding signs that say Oui. Charles De Gaulle works the crowd, shakes hands, walks along. Some people with cameras around him. Motorcade driving on rainy day, spectators lining the streets, some umbrellas up. People in crowd applaud enthusiastically. Exterior huge crowd on sunny day. Wagoner introduces gap-toothed comedian Speck Rhodes, who enters wearing his trademark checkered suit with bow tie and bowler hat. Rhodes makes joke about fictional girlfriend Sadie. Corny old fashioned jokes ensue. Speck's recycling his old material again. Backed by the trusty Wagonmasters, Speck sings "I'm A Plain Old Country Boy, But I Look Like A Town Dude." CU Buck's guitar. Speck twists and gyrates in an approximation of dancing as practiced by someone who's only read about it in books.

Porter plugs the show's souvenir booklet #4, "The Porter Wagoner Show Hits The Road!", containing songs and stories and pictures. It can be yours for only fifty cents by mail "in a en-vellup." Nice graphic of an envelope addressed to Wagoner.

Porter wraps up the show. As the Wagonmasters play instrumental show outro and announcer signs off, Wagoner shakes hands with Norma Jean, then waves goodbye as Magaha fiddles and dances us off the air. End title super reads: "Produced by Show Biz in cooperation with WSM-TV."

Giant machine Motorcycle cop pulls up next to what looks like the biggest tractor in the world (not sure what it is, exactly). It has giant tires, too. Caucasian man in hard hat operates/drives this huge piece of machinery. Police escort as the tractor-thing drives along street with cars, buildings, billboards.

25 Years Ago Today 4 Caucasian men in suits, one seated, 3 behind him. The seated man write something (probably signs) on paper. Document with seal and signature on it (text on it mentions Department of State, Washington, December 5, 'in the year of our Lord' 1933). (Church and state.) Bartender shaking drinks, man in tuxedo pouring alcohol for people around a table. Man wearing overalls puts nozzle into gas tank of car; tire on back of car says: Alcohol from Grain Mixed with Gasoline. Works Fine/ I Use It. Festival for Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. Pope visits outside the Vatican for the 68th time within his 2 year reign. No other pope has appeared with the public so often.
