Cardenas was known and was famous for his riged honesty. Cardenas disliked militarism and always described himself as a teacher or farmer. The Mexican people loved their new president.

This segment gives a step by step demonstration of the proper way to cast a write-in vote on an election ballot. Segment begins with a CU of an African-American man dressed in a red & white plaid sports coat. Man states that write-in votes can become confusing because there are three different ballod machines, meaning three different ways of casting the vote. Now for the demonstation... Caucasain man steps in a voting booth and puts his hand on a red lever that is protruding from the floor. Audio states "On the new chute machine, you first throw the main lever from left to right, as you would in the normal procedure". Man in booth pulls the lever and the booth curtain closes. CU of a single button on the ballod machine. Audio states "To cast a write-in ballot, there is a button in the upper left hand corner which must be pressed in as the slide is opened." CU of a hand mimicking the exact directions of the audio. The hand presses the button, opens the slide and writes inside the slot. View of a second voting booth with the curtain already closed. The audio states "On the old chute machine, the procedure is somewhat different for casting a write-in vote". View of the second machine inside the booth. Audio states "On this machine, there is a lever in the left hand column which must be held to the right as the write-in slot is opened". CU of a hand mimicking the actions of the audio. View of yet a third type of voting booth. The curtain on the booth is closed. Audio states "This is our newest machine, the AVM. The procedure on this one is even a little different than the other two". CU of the machine inside the booth. Audio states "After you have gone through the normal procedure for voting, there is no lever to press. You only have to raise a slide in order to cast your write-in ballot". CU of hand lifting the slide. We are done with the demonstration and back to an interview with the African-American man in the red jacket. CU of a practise voting machine. Reporter asks about the machine. Camera focuses on African-American man's face. Man states that there is a practise machine outside of the voting booths, but there is not an example on how to cast a write-in ballot. Reporter asks "So how is the voter going to know what to do". Man answers "He should ask the booth officials and they will show him the procedure". Reporter "Do you expect to avoid confusion". Man "No, we can't completely, but we expect to keep it to a minimum".
