"In 1973 the U.S. and the Soviet Union signed an agreement for a joint space linkup. Working together for two years, the assigned crews prepared for takeoff in their respective countries on July 19, 1975. The 300-ton Soyuz took off first, and the Apollo seven hours later. A constant check waskept from a space center in Houston and another in Moscow. This first international space venture by the two countries proved that nations with different social systems could work together for the benefit of all peoples."
