Opening of Porter Wagoner show #232. Standard pre-recorded opening begins with CU of Porter s shiny red boots walking down hallway, which cuts to rear view of Wagoner s garish green Nudie suit festooned with rhinestone wagon wheels and cacti. Montage of smiling Porter happily walking through WSM-TV studio as stage hands and technicians prep show. Don Howser s voice over reads: "Direct from Nashville Tennessee, here s The Porter Wagoner Show!" Quick shots of regulars as Howser announces them: "Starring Porter Wagoner, Dolly Parton, Speck Rhodes, Don Howser, The Wagonmasters, and today s special guest star." Momentary pause in VO (presumably left for Howser to read the guest star s name on air), then prerecorded segment ends with Howser s "...and now, here s Porter." Cut to live portion as Porter, wearing dazzling, rhinestone-studded blue Nudie suit, plays guitar and sings "Another Day, Another Dollar" backed by Wagonmasters Buck Trent, Don Warden, Mack Magaha, George McCormick, Jack Little and Speck Rhodes. Shots of The Wagonmasters in their matching red Nudie suits, including MS of Mack's fiddle solo.

Porter introduces his guest, the "squirrelly little dude" Bill Carlisle. Backed by The Wagonmasters and his children Bill Jr. and Sheila ("The Carlisles"), wacky entertainer Bill Carlisle plays guitar and sings the novelty number "Something Different," about the not-very-attractive woman in his life who's fine just the way she is. "She ain't too shy and she ain't too flirty/ She's my jerky turkey from Albuquerque-- hooray for that little difference!" Afterwards Porter and Bill Carlisle trade some remarks about Carlisle wearing an Indian headdress, and being a crow.

Backed by The Wagonmasters, Buck Trent plays us out of the commercial break with solo banjo on the instrumental "Give Me Five," from Buck's solo LP of the same name. CU Buck's sterling technique. Good shot of audience applauding at 01:06:01.

Porter introduces the "pretty little lady" Dolly Parton, who plays guitar and sings "False Eyelashes," from her first RCA LP "Just Because I'm A Woman." It's a dark and rueful number sung from the point of view of the alternate-universe Dolly who *didn't* become a mega-star. Dolly is backed by The Wagonmasters and wears an understated late-60s red/white/blue dress that seems more suited to 4th of July on a yacht than late April in Nashville.

Porter performs a number that he says has special meaning for him, saying he learned it long ago, and asking us to pay close attention to the words. Porter sings "An Old Log Cabin For Sale," a song he used to sing frequently in the early days of his show, about a man who returned to his family home too late to see his parents for the last time. Can it be a coincidence that this show was recorded on the first day that taping resumed after his hospital stay for exhaustion?

Porter brings Buck Trent on to introduce Speck Rhodes. Buck says: "Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to 'Laugh-Out'. Here he is, the funniest man in the world, Speck Rhodes." Well, he got the first part right anyway. Wearing his trademark checkered suit and bowler hat, Speck calls his fictional girlfriend Sadie on an old-fashioned wall-mounted crank style telephone and corny old-fashioned jokes ensue. Shot of audience, some of whom are laughing.

Don Howser steps in to introduce the week's inspirational number, and lo and behold it's another once-frequent chestnut from Porter's early days, the recitation "What Would You Do (If Jesus Came To Your House?)." Dramatic close-up on Porter's lined face for most of the number. Porter certainly seems to be in a reflective mindset after his hospital stay.

Porter brings Dolly back to fill the last little time slot, so she steps in and plays guitar and sings a verse or so of "I'm In No Condition" until Porter cuts her off and Porter wraps up the show, waving goodbye as The Wagonmasters play the instrumental show outro. Don Howser signs off, the credits roll, Speck struts around his bass, Dolly, Don, and Speck jump and down like maniacs, and Mack fiddles and dances us off the air. End title super reads "Produced By Show Biz in cooperation with WSM-TV."
