CU of an auto mechanic consulting a repair manual before sticking a screwdriver into the wheel well of a lifted car.

Cut back to the classroom, to MSs and CUs of teens reading (some are good readers, others are not). Cut to other educational tools: ECU of a record spinning on a record player; ECU of a film projector; MS of a theater performance; MS of a lecturer; great MS of male teen digging some lo-fi groves, a portable radio perched at his ear; MS of a TV screen. Cut to MSs of Tom, the epitome of a good reader: Tom reading at the park, at the bus stop, and in class.

Three local children wearing Halloween masks wait for candy. Bill waves them away. He resumes reading on the couch. CU of a finger pointing to the word "epidemic"; ECU of the word.
