CONTE says CONGRESS better drop the bill if it wants to get home for the holidays. Rep. JIM WRIGHT (D-TX) responds condemns REAGAN for making threats when Congress wants to make JOBS. ROBERTS v.o.-DEMOCRATS pleased to have REAGAN threatening a veto of the jobs, shelter, food program in the week before Christmas. Rep. TOM COLEMAN (R-MO) arguing that the LOS ANGELES COMMISSIONER OF SANITATION makes more than a Congressman. Rep. DAVID OBEY (D-WI) says it's only right that Congress get a raise. Rep. SAM HALL (D-TX) says the proposed raise is too high to justify to out-of-work constituents. Rep. ABE KAZEN (D-TX) agrees. ROBERTS v.o.-LAME DUCK CONGRESSMEN came out for the PAY RAISE since they didn't have to court voters. Rep. RICHARD BOLLING (D-MO) asks for Courage. Rep. JOHN ROUSSELOT (R-CA) says that Congressmen should ask their wives whether a raise is in order-the answer will be "yes". Retiring Rep. PAUL McCLOSKEY (R-CA) says that if anybody who votes for the PAY RAISE has trouble in the next election, he'll come to the district and campaign for that member. REAGAN likely to veto anything with a JOBS BILL, SENATE voting for MX MISSILE money to try to appease REAGAN. Lots of POSTURING and GRANDSTANDING in this lame duck session.
