WACO HEARINGS: 5:00-5:56PM - Master Number 10908 - INTRODUCTION: The following footage from the Waco Hearings consists of questioning of the second round of panelists. The majority of questions are directed towards a Mr. Thibideaux, a former member of the BD group who was present at the raid and fire and a Mr. Jewel, who is the father of Carrie Jewel, a young girl who was abused while at Mount Carmel. Representative McCollum, Slaughter, Zeliff, Taylor and Schiff ask questions of the panelists. Be aware that three different black zones exist in the footage. These three zones fall after segments 17:03:45, 17:11:15 and 17:15:05. 17:00:05 Old footage from Master Number 10907 shows Chairman McCollum asking Mr. Thibideaux about the fire. 17:03:45 Fresh footage begins by showing Chairman McCollum asking Mr. Barber about the grenade casings that were sent to Koresh, and then about the methamphetimine lab. 12:21:49 - 12:21:59 There is black space that cuts out the reply by Mr. Barber. TIME CODE DOES NOT MATCH WITH CURRENT CODE (12 TO 17). 17:04:19 Chairman McCollum is shown asking Mr. McMahon about his arms dealings with Koresh. 17:05:41 Rep. Slaughter of New York begins her questioning by asking Mr. Thibideaux about a possible relationship between him and David Koresh's sister in-law. He responds by implying a close friendship existed with Michael Jones and her daughter, who was Koresh's sister-in-law, but was never married to her. She then asks about the February 28th raid, in reference to, the mailman, a Mr. Jones. Mr. Thibideaux comments that the mailman informed the compound about the impending raid, but states that not everyone was told. Rep. Slaughter then asks about Koresh's legitimate son Cirrus, in reference to, various abuses he sustained. Mr. Thibideaux was not aware of the abuses Rep. Slaughter was speaking of. She then asks him at what age children were spanked, and specifically asks if 8-month-old children were. Mr. Thibideaux states kids were spanked, but did not think 8-month-old kids were. Pushing the question, Rep. Slaughter asks Carrie Jewel if 8-month-old children were spanked, and if so, with what. Carrie states that 8-month-old children were spanked with the wooden paddle, "Helper." Rep. Slaughter then asks Carrie if she ever knew Koresh to deny food to children. Carrie responds that no, she did not. 17:11:15 Rep. Zeliff begins his questioning by asking Carrie Jewel about why she requested to be subpoenaed. She responds that it was necessary so that her father could be with her. Rep. Zeliff then asks Mr. Goldstein about the issue of "staleness," and then about the constitutionality of the search warrant. Mr. Goldstein comments on the 4th Amendment and about how law enforcement needs to be restricted in terms of time and place. 12:46:45 - 12:47:27 There is black space that cuts out the reply by Mr. Goldstein. TIME CODE DOES NOT MATCH WITH CURRENT CODE (12 TO 17). 17:15:05 Footage resumes by showing Mr. Thibideaux discussing how ATF Agents stormed the compound, and how he discovered Winston Blake dead near a leaking water tank. He was responding to a question posed by Rep. Zeliff. Rep. Zeliff then asks Mr. Thibideaux, holding up a grenade paperweight, to identify it. 12:59:27 - 12:59:34 There is black space that cuts out the reply by Mr. Thibideaux. TIME CODE DOES NOT MATCH WITH CURRENT CODE (12 TO 17). 17:17:35 Footage resumes by showing Rep. Taylor asking Carrie Jewel's father, Mr. Jewel, about his experience with the Michigan Court System, and if he thinks the events leading up to February 28th are relevant. Mr. Jewel, not a scheduled panelist, is sworn in.. He states the events prior to the 28th are absolutely relevant. Rep. Taylor then asks Mr. Barber if the law was violated on regular bases by BD members prior to the calling of the ATF. Mr. Barber states that his office had many suspicions, but states that there was no probable cause at that time. He then asks Mr. Barber why he contacted the ATF. Mr. Barber states that it was because of the hand grenades. Rep. Taylor turns back to Carrie Jewel's father, and asks him what he told the Michigan Courts. He begins by telling how a former high-ranking member at the BD compound called him to warn of his daughter safety, and to tell of David Koresh. Mr. Jewel then confirms Rep. Slaughter's inquires about child abuse, and how young girls were held against their will until they broke, and consented to, the will of Koresh or his men. 17:25:22 Rep. Schiff begins his questioning by stating the information pertaining to the practices of David Koresh do not apply to the hearings because the hearings are about arms violations. He continues by stating the search warrant was inflammatory and sloppy, therefore, the ATF was out to make "a big splash." Then, he asks Mr. Barber about ATF Public Relations Official, Carrie Wheeler. Rep. Schiff then asks Mr. McMahon about his arms dealing with Koresh. He states Koresh would come to his home every three to four months to make deals. Rep. Schiff then asks Mr. Thibideaux questions about Koresh's advance knowledge of the ATF raid. Mr. Thibideaux states Koresh knew, because of the mailman and BD member, David Jones, who had been topped off by occupants of a media truck. Rep. Schiff then asks if he knew who tipped off the news truck. Mr. Thibideaux states, maybe the ATF did. Rep. Schiff then asks Mr. Thibideaux from which direction where shots initially fired. He replies, the shooting was simultaneously begun from the front and the back of the compound. 17:31:30 Chairman McCollum recesses the Chamber for a vote. 17:31:54 - 17:56:01 The Sub-Chamber is shown in recess. 17:56:02 TAPE OUT.
