01.00.00.00... static tLS of the Eagle on the moon, astronauts BUZZ ALDRIN and NEIL ARMSTRONG lumbering about in their space suits, collecting samples of lunar surface. Audio of TV reporter commentary intertwining w/ conversations between Houston (mission control) and the astronauts. The astronauts plant a 3X5" American flag, then pose for pictures beside it. TV reporters insist the flag-planting is not colonial in nature, that it simply states presence. Astronauts "kangaroo hop" towards stationary camera. 01.10.15.00.... COLOR. Split-screen of President RICHARD M. NIXON in Washington DC conversing with the astronauts. Nixon (screen left) sits at desk in Oval Office and speaks on a green telephone: I JUST CAN'T TELL YOU HOW PROUD WE ALL ARE OF WHAT YOU HAVE DONE. FOR EVERY AMERICAN THIS HAS TO BE THE PROUDEST DAY OF OUR LIVES. AND FOR PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD, I AM SURE THAT THEY TOO JOIN WITH AMERICANS IN RECOGNIZING WHAT AN IMMENSE FEAT THIS IS. BECAUSE OF WHAT YOU HAVE DONE, THE HEAVENS HAVE BECOME A PART OF MAN'S WORLD. AND AS YOU TALK TO US FROM THE SEA OF TRANQUILITY IT INSPIRES US TO REDOUBLE OUR EFFORTS TO BRING PEACE AND TRANQUILITY TO EARTH. FOR ONE PRICELESS MOMENT IN ALL THE HISTORY OF MAN, ALL THE PEOPLE ON THIS EARTH ARE TRULY ONE... astronauts reply, Nixon thanks them again and wishes them a safe return, then hangs up. End split-screen. At 01.12.14 Astronauts resume gathering bulk samples of moon rock. TV reporters resume commentary. Armstrong talks to Houston about poor visibility phenomenon (due to sun's glare on visor). At 01.17.35 Armstrong describes the surface of the moon. At 01.26.00 the TV reporter instructs the audience how to take still pictures from the TV (using specifics for f-stop and stock); describes how to avoid capturing the scrolling black bar phenomenon while the astronauts continue collecting raw moon rock samples. At 01.31.00 one of the astronauts reports an unusual small white object, gives Houston its coordinates. At 01.34.00 Aldrin gives observations of structural damage to the Eagle landing craft. The astronauts finish collections, pack them up, prepare to re-enter capsule. At 01.41.00 Houston comments on the lack of surface penetration of the capsule's heavy pads; the astronauts continue inspecting the lunar capsule before boarding.
