04.05.40.- MS's & CU's prize-winning illustrator and political cartoonist DICK LOCHER drawing graphite pencil sketches of a Sunday edition Dick Tracy comic strip, talking to the camera crew all the while. He discusses how and where the story (prose) comes from, and its ultimate marketing importance (to sell the daily newspaper and keep 'em coming back for more). Says that words take prescedence, that their main job is to tell a story. Says that Dick Tracy is human, is a family man, not a superhero; his world is a dark world, so they use a lot of blacks. 04.13.46.- CU's of Dick Locher-- having finished penciling the strip-- lettering a Sunday edition of Dick Tracy; parts of the strip have already been inked. CU's of him inking the strip. He talks about famous personalities who have it into the strip, mistakes that are occasionally made, how the two-way radio came into play, time schedules, implements of choice. 04.27.04.- CU black ink well attached to desk; he dips pen into it for larger strokes during inking process. CU's Locher inking the strip.
