Soul!: "To the People, Thank You," (Ep. 521). Producer Ellis Haizlip thanks the appreciative in-studio audience, reiterates the fact that the Corporation for Public Broadcasting decided not to renew "Soul!" for another season, but says that show will be included in the television history of the 1970s when "things go down." Ellis thanks the audience & past guests, says the first show was taped on 9/8/1968, thanks WNET for the opportunity to produce his passion. Ellis give personal thanks to Nikki Giovanni, Mae Jackson, Amiri Baraka, Ida Lewis, and Dr. Charles Hurst of Malcolm X College.

Soul!: "To the People, Thank You" (Ep 521). Producer Ellis Haizlip introduces a clip of the first musical performance on "Soul!", taped 9/8/1968, Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles performing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Patti LaBelle (Patricia Holt) and the Bluebelles (Sarah Dash & Nona Hendryx) perform "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" on an extremely colorful set. Fantastic live performance.

Soul!: "To the People, Thank You" (Ep 521). Producer Ellis Haizlip reads from a telegram sent by Patti LaBelle and her husband. Ellis thanks technical staff of "Soul!" (cameramen, crane crew, video men, tape editor, make-up and hair stylist). Ellis reads from a letter sent by Ruth McLane, a viewer who writes that "there is no alternative" to the show, none that genuinely reflects African-American culture or has such definitively black guests. Ellis Haizlip makes last plea for viewers to write to the CPB & to "Soul!" (latter address appears on screen).

Producer Ellis Haizlip introduces, in tribute, a clip of deceased "Soul!" musicial director King Curtis & the Kingpins performing an instrumental version of the soul ballad, "Hello Sunshine" with King Curtis on tenor saxophone. Other instrumentation include electric guitars, bass guitar, drummer, keyboard. Taped 9/8/1968.
