Reaching For The Lightning - PT1 An educational safety film dealing with the dangers of high voltage electricity at home and at the workplace. Contained are several staged scenarios in which electricity can cause accidental death. Though the narration insinuates death by electricity (electrocution), causalities are not seen but represented by superimposed special effects of sparks flying or bright flashes of light.

LS flat landscape, zoom to single tree in clearing, special effect flash of lightening superimposed.

GV suburban home w/utility pole in backyard, zoom to MS brick facade where the electric wire enters the house. GV pan of row of utility poles strung with power lines. MS birds resting on power line, pan out to see top of utility pole with pole-mount transformer.

Low angle looking up at kite flying in the sky, pan down to LS of field where boy & girl are operating the string. MCU boy looking up w/squinted eye while pulling on kite string. CU hands holding kite string. Low angle of kite flying. Rear MS kids flying kite, zoom to utility pole with pole-mount transformer. CU hands holding kite string. CU hand tugging on taught kite string. Narration builds tension suggesting a catastrophic death when the metal in the kite string hits the power lines.

MS pan as man in his late 30's, dressed in summer attire, enters the backyard of his suburban home carrying a paint pale & metal extension ladder, man leans his ladder against an aluminum window awning (home improvement, domestic chores). MS profile as man raises the ladder. Low angle MS looking up at electrical wire strung along the roof of the house, the top of the ladder is being raised dangerously close to the power supply. CU hand raising ladder. Low angle MS top of ladder hitting the live power line, sparks fly. CU man's hand jolting off the ladder from the power surge.

MS outside in factory yard as man walks, guiding metal cage being moved by hook crane. MCU crane operator in cab. Low angle MS as crane neck gets dangerously close to power line. MS man on the ground guiding the metal cage being moved. CU as the crane touches the live wires, sparks fly.
