TLS United States Marines Commandant (four star) General LEONARD F. CHAPMAN JR. sitting on couch, film camera in FG. MS two reporters & press photographers seated on opposite couch. MSs Gen. Leonard F. Chapman Jr. sitting on couch, talking with reporters: "I don t agree that the Army is doing that, but certainly in the Marine Corps we re looking for all the ways we can find to get tougher & tighter, to increase our standards of discipline, performance, loyalty & devotion." An off-screen reporter asks why he s pursuing such a philosophy, in light of other branches becoming more liberal. "Discipline is the key to winning on the battlefield, discipline & survival. The disciplined unit is the one that will survive and win. The Marine s duty is to be ready to fight and that means discipline. We re so far from relaxing discipline, we re tightening it up." Gen Chapman retired in 1972.
