And this is husindi. It should be boiled & one washes w/ it to cure earaches. All of these medicines can be found in the rainforest. We bring them from the forest & transplant them. Gas Alta Presion" w/ skull & crossbones. TLS oil pipeline spanning across stream. MS/CUs nasty oil slicks, sludge, dripping oil leaks beneath pipelines & in toxic waste pits (pollution, environment). MSs oil company workers sanding, attaching, installing oil pipeline in Amazon basin. TLS twin towers burning off excess fumes at oil refinery. Nice traveling shot along river in Amazon during rainstorm. TLS Cofan hut, two small dogs running down stairs. Cofan Indian OLGA TAMILLO says "In order to have water we must collect the rainwater after it has rained for a long period of time. It looks black. It's full of salts. We have to clean it or throw it away. It has to rain a lot before it is safe to collect the rainwater." Acid rain.

Cofan Indian ROMELIA MENDOA says "The entire river is dirty now. B/c the river has become so filthy, we can no longer bathe in it. All sorts of sickness have come to us from the pollution that can now be found in the river. We can't do anything w/ it, not even wash our clothes. Also, look at my feet, how they have become diseased. We are suffering a lot from sicknesses like this. We also suffer from other oil-related illnesses. As I was saying earlier, if we had not dug wells & continued to drink the water, we would have died of drinking kerosene-polluted water." Acid rain. Natasha of Odessa says "At the moment we have very big problems in our city, even w/ the water. Especially on the street, it's just awful. The sewage just flows over the streets. This sewage even float around outside, it even comes into the yards. For the children it's awful. We, us adults, we can stand it in a way, but for the children it is terrible. TLS senior citizens of Odessa, Ukraine, sitting in shade, tilt down to heavily polluted sewer basin. MS black cat sitting beside water pollution. Valentina & Raisa of Odessa say "We have been living in these conditions now for about 2 months. We don't know anymore who we have to contact. Our children, old people, children live here. We don't know who we have to contact. We contacted the executive committee, the city water management organization a lot of times. And everywhere they refuse to help us. They either have no pipes or they have no people or no technical means, but it doesn't make it easier for us. All of us are suffering from the sewage. Besides that, the drinking water sometimes when you open the tap, not always, sometimes you can see tadpoles swimming in it. We boil it but are we sure that boiling helps? We ask you to help us soon, just to remove the sewage as soon as possible. We have no air to breath, we are out of breath." MS/CUs open, polluted sewage water, frogs & bugs swimming in filth.

Vladimere Vygoing says "We've emptied 20 tons of garbage from here & later on when we cover it w/ plates I want to pave it w/ stones, fill everything up w/ clay & decorate everything & make it look decent. But of course we need assistance. The authorities pay attention, but we are just doing it by ourselves. It's hard, very hard. Cement is expensive. A sack of cement costs 10 grivnas & here you need 1.5 tons. It's a lot of money. There is no money. It would be possible if we had the assistance to restore & dig springs. So we are going to do it, but as long as we don't get assistance we do it by our own means." MS/CUs clean water in near-finished well.
