Archaeologist Prof. Dr. Zeidoun Al Muheisen says "Here is another main canal that is originating from the well of Wadi Musa. This canal here feeds a larger basin. When the basin is full, the water flows through several canals to the gardens here on the site and also the city of Petra. This channel enters the Siq w/ two arms. One goes through the Siq entrance and the other passes outside. Outside the town we find also many cisterns, dams and channels that feed the village."

The first canal on the right has been dug out of the rocks and was then treated with a layer of coating to keep the water clean because it was drinking water for the city."
