Gwen Ifill begins this segment discussing Iran and North Korea and their involvement with nuclear weapons. Barbara Slavin leads the discussion. Iran continues to deny any accusations it is trying to develop a nuclear weapon. North Korea is trying to develop one, but as a defensive measure.
Donald Rumsfeld shaking American soldiers hands, reviewing the troops. Martha Raddatz leads the discussion on the Iraqi elections, the Iraqi security forces, and the Israeli-Palestinian relationship (and where the US figures in that).
Topic of discussion shifts to the US Budget. (R) New Hampshire says "This is not a time when we can have guns and butter in excess, we're going to have a fair amount of butter, but it's just not going to be at the level that it might have been in the past if we weren't at war." (D) North Dakota says "The spending is going up eight percent and he says cut the revenue and already you've got record deficits. What has to be the result of that, there can only be one result, deeper and deeper deficits in debt." Alan Murray believes the President succeed in create bipartisan support against the bill with spending measures combined with tax cuts that would increase the deficit and debt of the nation. Troubling questions remains how much all the tax cuts are feasible given the funding questions surrounding the Iraq and Afghanistan war and Social Security.
The final segment revolves around Howard Dean and his comeback in the Democratic Party. Dan Balz tells the panel how Howard Dean as ascended to the rank of Chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
