Women in TV studio introduce themselves and their respective pregnancies. Sarah (Caucasian) is 5 months pregnant, Malisia (Caucasian teenager) is not sure, Robin (African American) is in her 24th week, Lori (African American) at 21 weeks. Doctor explains that estimates assume a 40-week pregnancy.

Women in TV studio discuss their respective pregnancies. Facilitator Joan Redfearn, MD, asks how they reacted to knowing they were pregnant. Lori says she was shocked, her symptom was dizzy spells, and she'd expected to go back on birth control pills but then found she was pregnant. Malisia had pains and suspected pregnancy; she was scared but excited because she has a small baby now. More discussion about planning second pregnancies.

Women in TV studio discuss their respective pregnancies. Robin was surprised to be pregnant again after experiencing loss with a blighted ovum (type of miscarriage). She had a negative pregnancy test at her dermatologist's office, but her obstetrician had a positive result. She was afraid of having the blighted ovum condition again.

Women in TV studio discuss their respective pregnancies. Sarah describes learning she was pregnant after trying for six months, using home pregnancy test. Lori describes her symptoms; at first she was just told she had low blood sugar but found the next day that she was pregnant. She did not know of her first pregnancy until 5 months into it; discussion about pros and cons of that (health dangers in not knowing).

Women in TV studio discuss their respective pregnancies. Facilitator Joan Redfearn, MD, asks teen mother Malisia about learning of her second pregnancy. Malisia says her mom found out because her husband blurted it out. Discussion of Malisia having two babies so close together. Discussion of nursing (breastfeeding) and pregnancy simultaneously. Malisia says she was scared and considered all her options (abortion, adoption).

Facilitator Joan Redfearn, MD, asks Lori about her first pregnancy at 19; Lori says it was a surprise, and she describes the later separation from the child's father. The doctor asks about financial aspects of teen pregnancy, and Lori says that was hard for them. Malisia says she has Medicaid, but before that there was a sliding scale so medical care was cheap. Lori is grateful for medical insurance now.

Lori and Malisia describe being "strapped down" for a C-section; Dr. Redfearn tries to reframe that as less scary than it sounds.
