Space Pioneer Passes Venus, Enters Orbit Around The Sun. Daytime rocket launch. (VO says this rocket carries Pioneer V space probe.) Big structure in silhouette, apparently a radio telescope. Scientist stands next to model satellites or space probes, speaks in accented English about this achievement that surpasses the Russians'.

Injured survivors are carried off of plane, and one man is placed onto stretcher.

Congressman Lou Stokes tours the Hough neighborhood located on Cleveland's east side. Segment begins with a small group of men & women walking toward the camera. Stokes is in this group. The majority of the people are African-American, but there is one Caucasian woman in the rear of the pack. Rear view of the group walking toward a house that is under construction. Profile of group walking past houses. Group stops to look at one of the houses. It appears that the houses in this neighborhood are due for a major rehab. The spokesman of the group explains to Stokes how the building will be knocked down and replaced with a structure that will be a two family unit. The families that move in will be able to buy the home rather than rent. The theory is that owning the home will encourage people to become active in their community.
Sports: Table Tennis Competition Audience watches men's doubles table tennis competition. VO praises one man's "blasting power" and he does whack the ball hard. But boy... in terms of external appearance, he looks like the stereotypical nerd, complete with dark-rimmed eyeglasses. Match point; man hits into the net, the other team of men celebrate their ping pong victory. People applauding - small crowd, many men in suit jackets but no ties - one African American man among them - could be generic audience, c.1960. Now the singles match, with a kill for the win! Men gather round to shake the winner's hand. (This cataloguer found this story pretty humorous...)
Sports: Figure Skating Chimpanzee Man laces ice skates for a chimpanzee (?? or similar animal). Man leads the chimp onto the ice rink (which has quite a few patrons already skating). Then the little guy starts skating on his own. Even backwards. Man helps the chimp do a few stunts - he spins the animal, then helps him jump up and flip. The chimp, still ice skating, jumps over some obstacles, nearly runs into some spectators, then climbs onto a rocking horse that's out on the ice.
Politics, 1960: Ike Gives Nixon Campaign A Boost. Reporters look on, take notes at White House Press Conference. Reporter (nat sound) asks Ike to repeat remarks he allegedly made regarding current presidential campaign. President Dwight D. Eisenhower smiles and implies that the remarks were leaked, but says "yes, very definitely" he has a personal bias about the race; he stops talking, indicating that's all he'll say, and laughter erupts. Journalist (off screen) asks whether Ike is referring to Nixon; Eisenhower smiles and says, "Was there any doubt in your mind?" Press event; many photographers are on hand as Vice President Richard M. Nixon receives honor (VO says from the Variety Club). Actress Ethel Merman is among those presenting this to Nixon. Hands hold a shiny "Life Member" card, and cameraman's reflection can be seen in it.

Looks like a Cold War press event, showing how very well these Soviet sailors were treated in the U.S.
