Opening credits. TLS traffic in mid-sized town, trees lining perimeter; l/a MS clock tower, time on clockface reads 4 o'clock. TLSs business district, cars & buses driving sluggishly through safe & secure pathos. MS two middle-aged Caucasian men-- both wearing business suits, one sitting in convertible car-- talking at curbside, F.W. Woolworth store in BG; paperboy happens along, hollering, "Extra, extra, read all about it! Paper, mister?" (no, really, this is genuinely uttered). CU Star Tribune headline-- "Mother and 3 Children Die in Home Explosion". MS/CUs men talking about the tragedy & others that have befallen this quiescent town; great dialogue here, w/ potent quotables like "I get jittery worrying about my own family!" & "Funny thing, doctors seem to get sickness & epidemics under control but no one is able to stop accidents" & "People take too many chances. They just don't think!" (uttered just as he pulls away, almost running down a young white woman jaywalking across street). Safety awareness pamphlets stacked upon each other. MS road sign: "Welcome to Pennsylvania! Please drive with care! Save Lives!". MCU road sign: "Emergency First Aid" with red cross emblem. TLS roadside billboard: "Watch out for our children-- drive carefully". MCU "School Crossing" street sign. MCU sign: "Stop Fires! Remember, I'm not Fireproof" with image of white baby stuffing hand into mouth.
Construction Of Lake Point Tower
MS heavy construction machinery drilling up the ground. Looks like a hydraulic shaft with a huge drill attached at the end of it to drill out big sections of the ground. MS as cam pans up a huge concrete tube (sewerage?) as it is lifted by crane. Nice but short MS of crane operator and asst. in cab of crane, watching the action in front of them. Cab turns slowly. Crane operator puff on a cigarette while he maneuvers the crane. Two construction worker help guide a huge concrete tube (sewerage?) into place as it swings from the crane. Several more very short shots of construction workers guiding large structural pieces and machinery into place. These shots are intercut with a few seconds of black in between. Overcast light. One shot shows the old Navy Pier building with "North Pier Terminal" sign on it. CU pounding a piling into place, MCU worker guides drill into place, CU large twisting drill thing. CU drill cutting through muddy ground. MCU bulldozer pushing soggy, muddy dirt towards camera. MS construction worker in hard-hat with hand on a rope, looking down, guiding something out of frame. Underground, low angle POV as a bucket is lowered toward camera in a deep well. MS construction worker drilling (with huge drill) out parts of the wall of an underground tunnel - looks like the drainage system is going to go in here. Two workers are hoisted up out of the well (low angle pov). CU man drilling wall of underground tunnel. More MCU same. Low angle POV of bucket hoisted up out of well. MCU huge, strange looking machine with two large arms/blades that appear to cut the ground.

In sunglasses and trench coat. Looks like he is being interviewed but there is no sound. Side view of a guy in a suit talking, nodding. MS two construction workers (wearing hard-hats and heavy boots) place large sheets of plywood. Sunny day, North Pier Terminal in background. WS scaffold tower/construction elevator shaft with some large object being hoisted up through its center to the top. CU inside the top of the scaffold, low angle POV as something is hoisted up to the top. WS construction workers pouring concrete - summer, sunny day (leafy trees in b/g, bright sun). Nice WS of the lower levels of Lake Point Tower. Main skeletal structures in place, with temporary supports and framework. Cam tilts up to the top, which I about 13 stories high at this point. Nice sunny blue sky. Tilts back down a bit. Static on WS. WS from top of the building (which isn't more than 20 stories tall at this point). Construction materials and workers in view, lake in background. Safety railing along edge. Very nice MS of two construction workers (one wearing hard-hat) placing a metal reinforcement rod at the top of the building - which isn't over 20 stories tall at this point. Nice background with lake shore drive, apartment buildings along the gold coast looking north, and the lake. Cam pans as they place the bar. Sunny, slightly hazy light.

Graphic of pie chart showing how many people die annually from influenza, meningitis, polio, tuberculosis, & "other communicable diseases", accidents bearing the brunt of "needless death". Sensational headlines like "10 Million Accidents Last Year" & "27,000 Accidents Every Day" suped over newspapers. Great MS/MCUs of young Caucasian man in business suit driving Chrysler sedan along country road, stopping at site of motorcycle accident, a young white man & woman prone in street; fantastic shots of man panicking, fretting, worrying, wanting to help but not knowing how, until an old country doctor arrives & administers the most general of first aid to the woman. Diss to MCU woman covered in bandages except for the beauty zone, which, miraculously, is unmolested; MSs young white male doctor in frock coat walking to her bedside w/ medical chart, then talking to cam-- "Chance saved her life. Good fortune in the form of a person who knew first aid" The good doctor walks to woman in traction in adjacent bed, then to masked burn victim next bed over; he continues berating the audience for not knowing basic first aid.
